SmackDown begins with a babyface Roman Reigns coming to the ring without fan approval. As Reigns talks about SmackDown being coined by his cousin The Rock and having a responsibility to carry the legacy, fans still chanted boring. Reigns says to carry the legacy, he wants to challenge Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship. Jey Uso comes out and announces he signed with SmackDown and wants to carry on the family legacy as well. Jey says he's been a tag team competitor for a while and wants to try to set himself apart from The Usos. The OC interrupt the party and AJ Styles tells Reigns the fans clearly don't want him near the Universal Championship and he asks Gallows and Anderson which Uso is in the ring. AJ says it would be perfect to have a six-man tag, but someone got a little tipsy this summer. Jey pops AJ Styles in the mouth and a brawl takes place. The OC has numbers before Drew McIntyre comes and evens the odds, sending The OC packing. After a commercial break, it's confirmed the main event tonight is The OC versus Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, and Drew McIntyre.
Andrade (w/Zelina Vega) vs. Mustafa Ali Getting a feel of the future of SmackDown with these two young talents, Andrade finishes Mustafa Ali with a La Sombre to win the opening night of the new era of SmackDown.
A replay of this past Monday on Raw where Bobby Lashley's rumored to be the father of Maria's baby, Rusev is asked by Renee Young his opinion on the rumors. Rusev says Lashley destroyed his marriage and is lucky he's on Raw or else he'd crush him. Rusev says he's a brand new man and wants a chance at success on SmackDown, and sends an extra warning to Lashley that if he sees him on the street, he's a dead man.
The Revival come to say in this new era of SmackDown, their titles mean they are one of the premier talents of the show and are carrying the "new flagship brand" on their backs. The Revival issue an open challenge to anyone on the roster when it's Heavy Machinery who accepts the call. When the official begins to raise the titles, Dawson and Wilder pull them back and clarify this is an exhibition match and NOT for the titles.
Heavy Machinery vs. The Revival In a match not for the titles, Otis and Tucker put themselves on the radar as they nearly win with a Compactor, but Wilder puts Dawson's foot on the ropes. As Tucker argues with the ref, Otis reaches under for Wilder, who pulls Otis out of the ring and Tucker gets rolled up with the tights by Dawson for a quick victory for the champions.
Rey Mysterio comes to the ring next and mentions the history of him on SmackDown and his late friend Eddie Guerrero. As the Eddie chants fill the arena, EC3 interrupts the masked legend. EC3 tells Mysterio that he looks like the future and is the future, while in comparison, if Mysterio would remove the mask everyone would see the wrinkles he's hiding. EC3 pokes at Mysterio's stomach and dares him to take the shirt off to see the dad bod. EC3 said he wouldn't be a dad though, because isn't Eddie the father? Mysterio throws the shirt off and dares EC3 to fight right now.
EC3 vs. Rey Mysterio EC3's arrogance is a detriment as every offensive move he made, he flaunted and taunted. EC3's caught by Mysterio's veteran status and the Master of the 619 delivers on his famous finisher to win the match, showing he still has plenty left in the tank.
Speaking with Renee Young, Chad Gable expresses his excitement to be on SmackDown, a show that made the likes of John Cena and Kurt Angle famous. Buddy Murphy stops by and says it'll also make him famous, claiming he is the Best Kept Secret of WWE and can prove it tonight.
SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley heads to the ring and says that Roman Reigns and The Revival can come and talk about their claim to being the top of SmackDown, but she's the longest reigning champion on SmackDown and this is her show with nobody changing that anytime soon. Becky Lynch comes out for a historic showdown, and with no words, as the fans chant yes before Bayley slowly backs away.
Aleister Black airs a vignette, asking if his childhood might have played into his dark soul but time will only tell. And whether the answer is yes or no, it won't matter to his opponents.
Buddy Murphy vs. Chad Gable In a match that features Gable's mat skills and Murphy's high-flying ability, this is a sneaky match of the night contender that finishes with Murphy getting an upperhand with Lights Out.
After his loss earlier, Jinder Mahal walks up to Mustafa Ali and tells him he won't go much further if he continues pandering to the fans like he did tonight. Mustafa brushes Jinder off and walks off.
Announced for next week: Rusev versus Shelton Benjamin while "The Man" Becky Lynch has her first match since being drafted to SmackDown.
MAIN EVENT The OC vs. Drew McIntyre, Jey Uso, and Roman Reigns This six-man tag is difficult for The OC, while they have chemistry between the three, McIntyre is on top of his game, Jey and Roman have some chemistry, Roman is trying to challenge The Fiend, and Jey Uso is trying to determine he's good on his own after being undrafted. As things break down, it's back and forth before Jey Uso suddenly hits a Superkick followed by a Samoan Splash, pinning the United States Champion AJ Styles! Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, and Roman Reigns celebrate as SmackDown goes off the air with no sign of The Fiend, but Reigns challenging the Universal Champion to the camera as SmackDown closes.
