The WWE and TNA companies have been at war. Ever since WCW was defeated by Vince McMahon, his promotion did not have a legitimate mainstream company to compete with. TNA began to emerge onto the scene and when Hogan and Bischoff came into the picture, they wanted to recreate the Monday Night War. However, that plan backfired as a surging young company quickly went the other direction and this move killed all the momentum. For years they tried to recover until Donald J. Trump decided to purchase TNA, move them to FOX Sports 1, bring in Shawn Michaels, and revamp TNA Impact Wrestling. All of a sudden, WWE has competition again. TNA made stellar signings such as Chris Jericho, John Hennigan, Two Cool Bucks, Rey Mysterio, Ricochet, Kenny Omega, and the return of TNA original AJ Styles. All these signings helped put TNA back on the map as a legitimate threat to WWE in terms of ratings.
On the other side of the coin, WWE was trying to stay the top dog. To do so, they maintained business as usual, but the storylines and pushes became more evident they were listening to the fanbase more. Pushes to the indy darlings like Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura, and others showed they wanted to keep the fans interest so they don't resort to other programming. WWE also went out and re-signed those of the past like Bobby Lashley and Carlito while signing some of tomorrow's next superstars like Adam Cole, Tama Tonga, and Zack Sabre Jr.
Running a wrestling promotion is no simple task. It is complex and has many moving parts. It becomes more complicated when you have another company trying to best you.
And now... the war is on.

2017 | Year in ReviewEMPEROR ROMAN REIGNS | DEAN AMBROSEAfter Roman Reigns turned heel winning the King of the Ring, he and Ambrose entered an intense feud. Emperor Reigns would obtain a cheap victory at Payback and win a Steel Cage match at Battleground by slipping out of the grasps of Ambrose from the top of the cage. Reigns began to set his sights on Brock Lesnar and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but Ambrose wanted one more chance at the Emperor. SummerSlam is where Ambrose would finally overcome the Emperor in a 30-minute Iron Man match, earning a title opportunity at the following Pay-Per-View. CONTROL OF THE WWEThe Rock had gained control of the WWE at WrestleMania, but it was Triple H emerging back into the picture, wanting to gain back control. Triple H nagged at The Rock and Mick Foley, before succumbing to a 5-on-5 Survivor Series match to be in control of the WWE. Triple H recruited Batista back to help, along with Randy Orton and Kevin Owens to fill out 4 of his 5. The Rock would wrestle on his own team as well, along with help from Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, and Braun Strowman. With each team wanting to fill its fifth man, they desired Seth Rollins. Ric Flair tried getting Rollins to join Triple H's team, but it was the go-home episode of SmackDown where Rollins signed on to Team Rock. At Survivor Series, the fifth man for Team Triple H was filled... and it was none other than Brock Lesnar! The progress of the match saw The Rock get eliminated by Lesnar's F5, and this meaning the final four was Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, and Braun Strowman. Yet, it was Strowman turning on Rollins and accepting a count-out elimination while Lesnar hit an F5, followed by Triple H hitting a Pedigree, as Triple H gained control once again of the WWE. With Triple H back in control, his first order of business was to fire Mick Foley and The Rock as Raw and SmackDown Commissioners. Triple H then put General Managers Trish Stratus and Edge under microscopes, in which they were under evaluation for several weeks. Triple H then declared on the first Raw of 2018, an announcement will be made determining their futures. WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPFinn Balor was riding high until Brock Lesnar returned to take the title from him, in which he successfully did. Lesnar's reign would last until SummerSlam where a dream match between he and Bobby Lashley would culminate in a Spear and a loss for the Beast. As Ambrose won the #1 contenders match that same night, he had first shot at Lashley. Brock Lesnar appeared that night, making it a no contest, and setting up a triple threat match at Vengeance the next month when Lashley would retain. Following, Bobby Lashley would defend against rival John Cena at Survivor Series where Cena would win his 16th world championship. Cena closed the year out as WWE Champion, yet he defends inside the Elimination Chamber on January 7th at New Year's Revolution. Yet, per an agreement with Triple H to be on his team at Survivor Series, Brock Lesnar will challenge the champion at the Royal Rumble. UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIPUniversal Champion Seth Rollins took a face turn as Ric Flair sat at home following Bray Wyatt's attack. Rollins, earning the fans' respect, carried the championship until Rage in the Cage when The Miz would win the Universal Championship! The Miz's reign would be short-lived when he would beat Rollins in a rematch on SmackDown, but Shinsuke Nakamura was emerging on the scene and while The Miz cheaply retained at Survivor Series, it was Nakamura getting a second chance at Demolition Derby three weeks later for his first title reign. Nakamura is slated, however, to grant The Miz a rematch on the opening episode of SmackDown 2018. WOMEN'S DIVISIONCharlotte dominated the Raw brand and would butt-heads with General Manager Trish Stratus. Charlotte would eventually lose her title to NXT call-up Asuka on the October 30th edition of Raw. Charlotte would blame Trish Stratus, and this led to Stratus coming out of retirement for one night against Charlotte at Survivor Series in which Charlotte emerged victorious. Charlotte is scheduled to challenge Asuka for the Divas Championship at New Year's Revolution. For SmackDown, the Matrons Championship played some hot potato. Becky Lynch would return and as Paige was going for the championship as well, Alexa Bliss was slated to defend against both women at The Bash. Paige forced Alexa Bliss to tap out to win the title, but Alexa wanted a rematch, while Lynch was saying she was never in the decision. Nia Jax, Alexa's ally, was thrown into the mix by Edge and this created an elimination fatal-four way at SummerSlam for the title. Alexa Bliss reclaimed her title, last beating Becky Lynch, who put down Paige moments before. Alexa Bliss wouldn't hold onto the title long before Becky Lynch reclaimed her title at Rage in the Cage. Lynch would then put down Alexa Bliss one more time, followed by Naomi at Demolition Derby, to end the year as Matrons Champion. MID-CARD DIVISIONBaron Corbin reigned as Intercontinental Champion, thanks to his alignment with Paul Heyman. Corbin held the belt until the night after Survivor Series when he was told to defend against fan-favorite Finn Balor and lost. Corbin is slated to have a rematch against Balor at New Year's Resolution. The rest of the division saw heavy lifting from the likes of Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, Cesaro, Carlito, and Tyler Breeze. Unfortunately, Neville tore his Achilles in early July and has not seen the ring since. In addition, "The Crowe" had debuted on Raw and a few weeks after debuting, he would tear both his ACL and MCL, resulting in him not being seen on television again. Shinsuke Nakamura as United States Champion saw an end in triple threat action when The Miz pinned Kevin Owens. This incited The Miz versus Nakamura in 1-on-1 action when The Miz got by. The Miz's reign would end right before SummerSlam to Cody Rhodes. Rhodes was then targeted by Bray Wyatt, prompting the third Valley of Shadows Deathmatch in WWE history. Wyatt emerged victorious, earning the title. Wyatt would compete in the SmackDown versus Raw Survivor Series match, the night Rhodes returned and distracted Wyatt to be eliminated. Wyatt, however, won a TLC match against Cody Rhodes to retain the title at Demolition Derby. Dolph Ziggler, Kalisto, and Sami Zayn would also be a big part of the mid-card division. Also, Elias Samson notably debuted the night after Survivor Series and won his pay-per-view debut at Demolition Derby against Kalisto. TAG TEAM/TRIOS DIVISIONThe Usos would control the Raw division for much of the year, and had a historic TLC Match with The Hardy Boyz and American Alpha at SummerSlam, retaining the belts. The Usos would be knocked off the throne a couple months later at Vengeance by The Revival who earned their first championships. The Revival beat The Usos at Survivor Series and are now slated to defend the belts against American Alpha. SmackDown's Trios division was held down by The New Day. The New Day and the Wyatt Family had three big showdowns at The Bash, SummerSlam, and Night of Champions, yet The New Day came away with wins each time. This was the pinnacle of the division, because these were the prominent trios on the division along with Cultural Revolt. There were some random pairings that happened throughout the year, but at the end of the day, it was the New Day remaining champions headed into 2018. NXTThe NXT brand lost Elias Samson to SmackDown and Asuka to Raw via promotions to the main roster. Adam Cole continued to reign as NXT Champion throughout the year, yet The Tolutasi defeated the Depths of Despair at the NXT Takeover during Survivor Series weekend. Asuka would defend her title one more time at NXT Takeover Brooklyn III against Tessa Blanchard, when Blanchard would take the belt in a classic. NXT would debut new stars in the remainder of 2017 such as Ember Moon (Athena), JW Richards (Jared Wayne Stevens), Jorge Castro (Levis Valenzuela Jr), Marshe Rockett, Pete Dunne, and Tucker Knight. Future EndeavorsRaw superstar Kaval and SmackDown superstars Apollo Crews, Curt Hawkins, Justin Gabriel, and R-Truth saw their tenures in WWE end this year. NXT superstars Fandango. Shane Hollister, and Sphinx were let go by the company. In addition, Shaun Ricker never made it out of the WWE Performance Center. After a few months of training, Ricker rubbed people the wrong way and was thus released in October. Then in a move that surprised a lot of people, Natalya opted not to re-sign with WWE and wrestled her last match in November. In other news, The Crowe requested and was granted his release, citing the ACL injury being "too much" for him and retired from in-ring action. When asked to be a backstage producer, he declined. New SigningsAs noted, Batista signed a pay-per-appearance deal with the main roster and is officially listed as a member of the SmackDown roster. The WWE then went about signing people to Performance Center deals, as follows: Cedric Alexander, David Finlay, Desmond Xavier, Ethan Page, Joe Coffey, Josh Alexander, Kona Reeves, La Sombra, Mark Coffey, Moose, Patrick Clark, Sam Shaw, Chelsea Green, Kairi Sane, Nikki Cross, Scarlett Bordeaux, Shayna Baszler, and Thea Trinidad. This is considered one of the stronger PC classes. 2017 | Year in ReviewAJ STYLES | KENNY OMEGA + TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPThe greatest rivalry in 2017 was that between AJ Styles and Kenny Omega with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in the center. Once Chris Sabin's title opportunity was interrupted by Omega, Jacobs, and Gallows, a King of the Mountain Match was announced for Slammiversary. Sabin had an automatic entry and Omega was barred from qualifying. After EC3 and Patriot 2000 qualified, Omega cornered Shawn Michaels to give him a spot, in which AJ Styles told Michaels he wanted Omega in the match and Michaels obliged. The night of, Chris Sabin was injured backstage and the returning Eric Young took his place in the match. Yet, it was Eric Young who almost hung the title up when Omega's boys Gallows and Jacobs came down and attacked Young, paving the free path for Omega. Two Cool Bucks ran down and took out the three to allow AJ Styles to get out of the cage and begin to scale the ladder. While holding the ladder, the Bucks turned and tipped the ladder before Stereo Superkicks on AJ Styles. They then aligned with Omega to climb the ladder, put the title up, and be crowned TNA World Heavyweight Champion. The following Impact, Kenny Omega was surrounded by the two top tag teams and claimed the official Bullet Club in TNA. However, next in line was John Hennigan after defeating Drew Galloway at Slammiversary. After Omega would defeat Hennigan cleanly, AJ Styles re-emerged and was hellbent on not only regaining the title, but destroying the empire Omega is trying to build by having his friends stab him in the back. At Hardcore Justice, Kenny Omega received help from the Bullet Club in order to defeat AJ Styles in a Hardcore Match. Styles would then get a rematch at Bound for Glory, but have to go through singles matches with each of the Bullet Club members to get a 1-on-1 opportunity against Omega, unless they get to be apart of the main event. Styles would go 4-for-4 and have a 30-minute Iron Man match against Kenny Omega. The match would end in a 1-1 draw, and as the match was put into "Sudden Death," Styles and Omega battled to the stage where Styles superplexed him off the set and left both men unable to continue. The following night, it was confirmed that Styles and Omega would meet once more in an I Quit match at the next TNA Heartbreak on November 20th for the title. Styles and Omega fought hard, and Omega ended up climbing the tron to get away from Styles, but Styles followed. When Styles was up there, towering Omega, Omega quit the match, rewarding the match to Styles. Styles took a breath, but Omega got to his feet and pushed Styles off to where he crashed hard through the stage. A couple weeks later, it was confirmed that AJ Styles would have to relinquish the belt due to injury, creating an 8-man tournament. In the tournament: Chris Jericho, Chris Sabin, Drew Galloway, Eric Young, John Hennigan, Kenny Omega, Rey Mysterio, Stu Alexander The semifinals concluded with Chris Jericho defeating Rey Mysterio and John Hennigan upsetting Kenny Omega. Therefore, on the first episode of Monday Night Impact of 2018, it will be Jericho versus Hennigan for the vacant TNA World Heavyweight Championship. X-DIVISIONRicochet won the championship in March and has overcome a lot of challenges in the division, against the likes of Chris Jericho, Davey Richards, and Rey Mysterio. Ricochet took a break from defending the title at Bound for Glory when he competed in the Bound for Glory Briefcase Ladder Match, one that Ethan Carter III would ultimately win to earn himself a world title opportunity within the next year. Ricochet's third reign with the belt has lasted over nine months and is scheduled to defend his title in an Ultimate X match on the first Impact of 2018 against Andrew Everett, Johnny Gargano, Matt Cross, and Tigre Uno. Matt Cross signed with TNA back in September, in addition to Drago. KNOCKOUTS DIVISIONJenny Thunnel's dominant Knockouts Championship reign came to an end at TNA Heartbreak on May 1st to Ivelisse. Ivelisse's triumphant victory landed her in hot water with Thunnel who got her rematch at Slammiversary. Thunnel was unable to come up with a win in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Ivelisse would go on to successfully defend the championship against Angelina Love, who insisted Velvet Sky not be in her corner. Sky would then have a title opportunity, and with help from Love at ringside, she won the Knockouts Championship. This reign only lasted briefly before Ivelisse regained the title at Hardcore Justice. Ivelisse would hold onto the title further, defeating Gail Kim at Bound for Glory, and remaining champion through 2017. TNA aimed to beef up their knockouts division, so they began signing some knockouts. After the Beautiful People were through with Ivelisse, the debut of Allysin Kay and Taylor Made targeted Sky and Love in a rivalry. Then later, a debuting Su Yung attacked Ivelisse a couple weeks after Bound for Glory. This set up a non-title match where Su Yung emerged victorious over Ivelisse, and now it sets up a title opportunity on the first Impact for Su Yung. TAG TEAM DIVISIONOn May 8th, a week after TNA Heartbreak, Dasher Hatfield used one of his Feast or Fired briefcases for he and Matt Morgan to win the TNA World Tag Team Championships from Two Cool Bucks. Two Cool Bucks then settled into a feud with Doc Gallows and Karl Jacobs leading into Slammiversary, because of Gallows and Jacobs costing them the opportunity. Hatfield and Morgan would lose the titles in their first defense against The Briscoes at Slammiversary. The Briscoes would successfully defend against the Bucks on TNA Heartbreak, and then Gallows and Jacobs in Full Metal Mayhem at Hardcore Justice, and would hold the titles through the rest of the year after defeating Irish Borne and Makabe and Honma in a triple threat tag at Bound for Glory. The Briscoes now have another defense against Dirty Standards on the first Impact of 2018. MID-CARD DIVISIONTNA has a ton of talent in their main event and X-Division sections that blend into a mid-card section. Eric Young's return at Slammiversary led into good feuds with Patriot 2000 and Drew Galloway, as Young has been regarded as the best wrestler the second half of 2017. Other prominent feuds included that between Ethan Carter III and John Hennigan, Rey Mysterio and Tigre Uno, Agonia and Stu Alexander, as well as Chris Sabin and Ciampa. Rey Mysterio notably wrestled Tigre Uno at Bound for Glory in the instance he lose that he retires. Mysterio won, continuing his career, and has been notably featured on every Impact since. FUTURE ENDEAVORS + NEW ROLESIn 2017, the TNA terms ended were Chasity, Cortez Castro, Jade, Mandrews, Rockstar Spud, Shelton Benjamin, and Tyrus. Bobby Roode and Matt Morgan have transitioned more into a backstage producer with sporadic in-ring appearances, similar to Jeff Jarrett's current role. In addition, Ken Shamrock is no longer with the company in any capacity. And by the end of the year, Ciampa's contract had expired and has yet to re-sign with the company. NEW SIGNINGSAs noted, TNA signed Drago, Matt Cross, Allysin Kay, Su Yung, and Taylor Made. TNA has also signed John Skyler, who has been following Eric Young around the last month for guidance and mentorship. Jimmy Havoc was signed back in August for Hardcore Justice where he debuted against Ciampa in a victory, and has since participated in a few hardcore matches, including a Bound for Glory Briefcase Ladder Match. Havoc is now in a feud with Drew Galloway. According to multiple sources, TNA has apparently stocked up on big names in the wrestling business and have those names secured to debut in 2018. This Week in Wrestling
MONDAY NIGHT RAW
* Triple H began the evening announcing the fates of Trish Stratus and Edge, whom both were in the ring. Triple H announced both are terminated and he will be operating both Raw and SmackDown along with his wife, Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie returned and said her first order of business is doing something she has wanted to do for a long time and slapped the taste out of Trish's mouth. Trish Stratus then tackled Stephanie and both Triple H and Edge separated them. After dissolving the situation, Edge decides to charge and spear Triple H! The crowd roared as Edge and Trish left with some dignity.
* Bobby Lashley one-on-one against Dean Ambrose upped him with a Spear.
* Prior to their title defense on Sunday, The Revival lost the titles to New York's Finest. Later in the evening, it was announced there would be a triple threat tag involving these two teams and American Alpha.
* Emperor Roman Reigns had no other choice but to submit to Samoa Joe's Coquina Clutch.
* The Usos and The Hardy Boyz secured a big 8-man tag win against Carlito, Chris Masters, Cesaro, and Kassius Ohno.
* Finn Balor topped Tyler Breeze with a Coup de Grace but heard from Paul Heyman afterward about what Baron Corbin will do this Sunday. This distracted Balor enough to be attacked by Corbin, but Balor fought back and after connecting with a Slingblade, Corbin retreated.
* In six-woman tag action, the Asuka Lock secured a win for the Divas Champion, Bayley, and Sasha Banks against Charlotte and the Bella Twins.
* In the main event, Braun Strowman and John Cena's match was interrupted by the other four men, resulting in a six-way brawl headed into this Sunday's Elimination Chamber match.
MONDAY NIGHT IMPACT
* The show began with the Ultimate X match where Andrew Everett claimed his third X-Division Championship.
* Shawn Michaels had a huge announcement that was interrupted by the Bullet Club. The Bullet Club's leader Kenny Omega vowed that the entire world would be turned upside down after tonight when the Bullet Club introduces their newest member.
* The Briscoes retained the TNA Tag Team Championships against Dirty Standards, but it was the debut of Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly collectively known as "reDRAGON" who jumped the Briscoes and made their presence known in TNA.
* Drew Galloway topped Jimmy Havoc in a Falls Count Anywhere as he hit the Future Shock on the announce table and pinned Havoc in the rubble.
* Ivelisse retained her Knockouts Championship via count out as Su Yung mysteriously walked out after rendering Ivelisse unconscious in the ring after a ruthless forearm smash following the mist when she could have easily pinned her.
* During the main event for the title, the Bullet Club came and surrounded the ring. Jericho and Hennigan continued to fight until Jericho was setting it up for the Codebreaker. Jacobs and Gallows tried rushing the ring, distracting the ref, and Jericho avoids a superkick by Matt, but can't on the other side by Nick Jackson. John Hennigan then sees his opportunity and hits the End of the World to become the new champion. The Bullet Club gets in the ring and hands Hennigan a Bullet Club shirt. Hennigan embraces them as he's the newest member of Bullet Club!
TUESDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN
* Randy Orton, along with Ric Flair, is the first to declare for the 30-man Royal Rumble match. Seth Rollins then came and put his name in the match, which led to a 1-on-1 match where Rollins won via count-out after Orton retreated.
* Maria introduced her husband, Michael Bennett, as Bennett made his SmackDown debut against Tye Dillinger and came away victorious.
* United States Champion Bray Wyatt defeated Kurt Angle as Harper and Rowan lurked at ringside.
* Christian and Tomko fell in tag team action to Cultural Revolt.
* Matrons Champion Becky Lynch lost due to Emma using the ropes as leverage in a pinfall, but the official didn't catch it.
* In the main event for the WWE Universal Championship, Shinsuke Nakamura upped The Miz to retain the title. However, he was attacked after the match by both Randy Orton and Batista, as directed by Ric Flair.
FRIDAY NIGHT IMPACT
* John Hennigan, with Bullet Club surrounding him, changed his nickname to "Johnny Impact," declaring he is Impact. Chris Jericho came out and challenged John Hennigan to a match later that evening with no Bullet Club members around. John Hennigan accepted.
* Ricochet, following his loss in the Ultimate X match, bounced back and defeated Tigre Uno. Ricochet then issued a challenge to Andrew Everett for a Best 2-of-3 Falls in two weeks for the X-Division Championship.
* In tag team action, The Beautiful People's Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne defeated Made in Sin with help from Angelina Love on the outside. And as they boasted backstage, Allysin Kay and Taylor Made attacked the Beautiful People inciting a brawl.
* The Briscoes addressed reDRAGON from last week. They say they're familiar with them, and would welcome a match down the road. The Briscoes would then defeat Irish Borne in epic fashion, making a statement towards reDRAGON, who stepped out from the back to make another appearance in front of the TNA Tag Team Champions.
* Knockouts Champion Ivelisse defeated Madi Maxx, but it was Su Yung attacking Ivelisse after the match by putting in a Mandible Claw.
* Shawn Michaels is asked by new backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell about his announcement last week. Michaels said the Bullet Club interrupted it, but he will be making the announcement next Friday on Impact.
* John Hennigan went head-to-head with Chris Jericho and Jericho came away with the win on Hennigan after having him submit to the Walls of Jericho. Afterward, the Bullet Club rushed the ring and laid out Jericho, allowing Hennigan to finish Jericho off with the End of the World.
