Following WrestleMania 22, Eric Bischoff returned to WWE programming after being humiliatingly fired this past fall by Mr. McMahon. Bischoff says before he was fired, he signed the rights to Nitro over to himself. Bischoff said he was bringing NITRO back on Tuesdays! As Mr. McMahon is trying to find an answer to combat Nitro, Paul Heyman steps up to the plate and says he'll lead Monday Night Raw in this new era. Teddy Long speaks up about SmackDown still being the place to be. But over the course of a few weeks, Bischoff was striking deals with wrestlers on both shows and new talent.

Some key members opted to sign with either Raw or SmackDown. CM Punk, Rhino, and Rob Van Dam all joined Paul Heyman on Raw.

Once Kurt Angle blackmailed Teddy Long into giving him a rematch with Rey Mysterio, Angle won and turned around to sign a Nitro contract to bring the Big Gold to Tuesdays.

WWE was able to secure some talent from the NWA: TNA. Rhino was joined by Marcus Cor Von, Bobby Roode, and LAX.

WWE also has announced the signing of Bryan Danielson, El Generico, and KENTA.
