American Alpha and R-Truth def. Curt Hawkins, Kaval, and The Miz
In an untelevised match before the show, it took Grand Amplitude to The Miz to win the match.
May 7 2017
The show began with showing winners of previous King of the Rings and then highlights from the King of the Ring tournament that's taken place the last couple of weeks, as they then spotlight on the remaining four as tonight we crown a new King of the Ring!
The first match on deck is SmackDown's semifinals featuring the WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, in a rematch from WrestleMania 33. Rich Brennan and JBL show highlights of what brought them here tonight, with two questionable ways. One has benefited from outside distraction out of his control, and the other has deliberately cheated to advance.
Dean Ambrose def. Seth Rollins w/Ric Flair in the King of the Ring Semifinals
Ambrose tried hitting Dirty Deeds, but Flair got up on the apron, and Ambrose just pushed Rollins back into Flair, as Flair got bumped off the apron and Ambrose went for Dirty Deeds then and advanced!
As Dean Ambrose celebrated his victory, the commentary team of Michael Cole and Tyson Kidd transitioned to Raw's side of the bracket. They highlight a cleaner side of the bracket, with Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe advancing to this upcoming match.
Roman Reigns def. Samoa Joe in the King of the Ring Semifinals
Reigns had to hit two Superman Punches on Joe and then instinctively hit a Spear to put Samoa Joe down.
Roman Reigns has advanced and the Raw commentators bring up the fact Reigns and Ambrose were two-thirds of The Shield and former WWE Tag Team Champions, winning the titles about a year ago in May. They then segway into the WWE Tag Team Championships match up next, where The Usos have one shot at the titles now.
The Usos def. The Hardy Boyz(c) to win the WWE Tag Team Championships
Jeff Hardy hurt his ankle, but while the ref checked on the Charismatic Engima, Jey tossed the title to Jimmy as he clocked Matt Hardy in the skull before tossing it back and Jimmy pinned Matt.
While The Usos celebrated a cheap 5th championship reign on top, Jeff Hardy received help to the back as he couldn't place any weight on the ankle. Things are then turned over to SmackDown's Rich Brennan and JBL to speak of the handicap match to take place next.
Braun Strowman def. Erick Rowan and Luke Harper
When Harper saw where things were headed, he bailed on Rowan and Strowman had the Triangle Choke Hold on Rowan and had him pass out, yet Strowman wasn't happy.
Backstage, Renee Young interviewed Dean Ambrose about the King of the Ring tournament finals with Roman Reigns later tonight. Ambrose is excited about the opportunity and mentions Stone Cold Steve Austin winning King and coining the phrase Austin 3:16 that made Austin one of the all-time greats. Ambrose said he sees the same tonight because tonight is the beginning of the most important chapter in his career, as he becomes King of the Ring! Young sends it to the Raw commentary team, a weird sight, as they gear up for the Divas Championship match.
Charlotte(c) def. Paige in a Submission Match to retain the Divas Championship
Charlotte had nowhere to go in the PTO, but backed her up in the corner, releasing the hold and this allowed Charlotte to lock in Figure-8 Leg Lock to retain her title.
Tom Phillips is standing by Roman Reigns backstage and asks Reigns about advancing in the King of the Ring tournament. Reigns said it is an honor, and mentions his cousin The Rock was never King of the Ring, so he can finally step out of the shadow many try to place him in. Reigns says he can put himself in elite category if he wins tonight. When asked about wrestling Ambrose, he said he came in aware he'd wrestle Ambrose or Rollins, so it would be a Shield match. Roman Reigns admitted they set the standard and knew they'd go on to have singles success, but he's glad Dean Ambrose won because he deserves it, but won't be walking out tonight as King of the Ring.
Rich Brennan and JBL switch gears to the Intercontinental Championship match up next with Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin. A short video package airs of Baron Corbin's debut and the Cardinal Sinner aligning himself with Paul Heyman.
Baron Corbin w/Paul Heyman def. Shinsuke Nakamura(c) to win the Intercontinental Championship
Corbin dodged a Kinshasa and Nakamura hit his knee in the corner, as Corbin grabbed Nakamura's hair and pulled him back. Corbin then picked Nakamura up and hit an inverse military slam, before immediately picking Nakamura up and hitting End of Days.
The crowd was stunned as Paul Heyman forced the title away from the timekeepers area and Heyman went inside the ring to hand Corbin the belt as the music blasted through the arena. Brennan was shocked that not only the reign of Shinsuke Nakamura had ended, but Baron Corbin's reign has begun!
Michael Cole and Tyson Kidd take over and mention Corbin and Nakamura's match was great and a tough act to follow, but Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have a rivalry that could!
Sami Zayn(c) def. Kevin Owens to retain the United States Championship
Zayn and Owens had another historic, 5-star match, but as Owens went for a Frog Splash, Zayn popped up and hit the ropes, having Owens fall off the top rope and he got up in the corner, only for a Helluva Kick to lose the match.
While Zayn's celebrating, we get a video package of the King of the Ring tournament winners in the past. Speaking of the past, the finals get a two-man commentary team for this one... 2006 King of the Ring winner Booker T and Hall of Famer, Jim Ross! Booker T and Ross join forces for this next match, the King of the Ring tournament finals, only adding to the big match feel. As both combatants make their way to the ring, they show highlights of their way to the finals, including the semifinals earlier tonight.
Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns in the King of the Ring Tournament Finals
The King of the Ring tournament the previous two weeks concludes in this epic showdown between former tag team champions and forever brothers. Reigns and Ambrose had a back-and-forth match all the way through, besting each other's best.
In the match's final moments, Roman Reigns had hit a Superman Punch on Ambrose, yet Ambrose fell back into the ropes and tried coming back with a Lunatic Lariat, yet that was countered with a Samoan Drop. Reigns hooked the leg behind him yet Ambrose kicked out of the weak cover. Roman then went for a Spear, but when Ambrose moved out of the way, Reigns flew into the corner and Ambrose knew he had his opportunity as he turned Roman Reigns around and tried hitting Dirty Deeds, yet Reigns pushed Ambrose back into the official, knocking the referee down. Roman then hit a second Superman Punch! Reigns looked to make the cover, but saw the referee was down. Reigns then looked to be desperate, but he saw a second official run to the ring and Reigns made the cover... but Ambrose kicked out! The time that elapsed allowing Dean to kick out.
As Roman Reigns stood back up, he laid back his hair, before he went to the corner to set up for a Spear. Reigns waited and he ran towards Ambrose, yet Ambrose got his knee up, knocking Reigns in the face. Reigns responded with an uppercut to the jaw, that laid Ambrose back and as he came back with the Lunatic Lariat, Reigns ducked and Ambrose took out referee two!
The camera saw Ambrose's face shocked as he looked down at the referee and he's trying to wake him up, but while this happened, Reigns had rolled to the outside. Ambrose is trying to wake the referee, but to no avail. Reigns had rolled back inside the ring after grabbing a chair from the apron and stood behind Ambrose, then landed the chair to the back. Ambrose winced as he then turned around and got a steel chair to the gut, followed by Reigns dropping the chair and hitting a DDT on it. Roman Reigns just stood above Dean Ambrose, emotionless, as the crowd was split in terms of shocked or thrilled. Roman Reigns then looked at the two officials, and he took the first one and tossed him out of the ring, followed by the second one. Reigns stalked Dean Ambrose as he picked the steel chair up once more, and Ambrose was grasping at Roman's leg, asking why he'd do such a thing. Reigns then pulled his leg away and as Ambrose tried getting up, Reigns took one final shot to Dean's head, with the chair coming straight down and knocking Dean Ambrose out. Roman tossed the chair aside and looked toward the ramp where we see Raw General Manager Trish Stratus at the curtain rushed a referee down to the ring for the count, as Reigns dropped to his knees and covered Dean Ambrose.

The music hit as Roman Reigns got up and with a surreal feeling in the air and he got his hand raised as he looked down at his friend Dean Ambrose. Roman Reigns exited the ring and took his time up the ramp where he met Trish Stratus as she was excited. Stratus helped Roman Reigns get his robe on and he was crowned officially, followed by being handed his scepter. Roman Reigns sits down in the King of the Ring throne and takes it all in, still with an emotionless look on his face, as we have a new King of the Ring at the end of the show with an unforeseen attitude.
